REQUIRE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Sustainability should already be a major preoccupation for suppliers. That is the only way to create a sustainability concept that really covers everything. This is precisely the reason behind the fact that we already source over 50% of the aluminum for wheel production from members of the Aluminum Steward Initiative (ASI), which we have belonged to since April 2018 as a downstream supporter. In addition, 40% of our bought-in aluminum is produced with energy from sources certified as being renewable.
The ASI is a new cross-industry approach aiming at greater transparency in the aluminum industry – an approach which for the first time incorporates the whole value-added chain. Created by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), this provides a standard developed to focus on eleven important sustainability aspects – for example business integrity, transparency, human rights, health and safety at work, greenhouse gas emissions, water and waste.
LESS MATERIAL AND LESS WEIGHT
ALSO CONDUCIVE TO GREATER SUSTAINABILITY
It is our aim to also produce wheels in a sustainable fashion if possible. Which is why we use innovative manufacturing processes that reduce material consumption. For example, undercut which reduces aluminum consumption by around 1 kg per wheel, and flowforming, achieving a weight reduction of approximately 1.5 kg per wheel.
TOMORROW’S WHEELS TODAY
As tangible proof of our commitment we have more or less re-invented the wheel! With the RONAL R60-blue we have set ourselves ambitious goals for sustainability – and also achieved them. This not only makes the wheel a perfect ambassador for PLANBLUE, but also a pioneer of a new, environmentally-friendly generation of wheels. This wheel is designed to fit vehicles such as the VW Golf GTE Hybrid, e-Golf, Toyota Auris Hybrid, Prius Hybrid and others. Above all, it is characterized by a 20% lower CO2 emission level during materials manufacturing and production, and offers at least 3300 km of CO2-neutral driving over 150,000 km.
A QUESTION OF PRINCIPLE
Recycling is a priority for the RONAL GROUP. And in more ways than one: Our wheels are 100% recyclable. And where technically feasible, we channel all waste aluminum from production back into the manufacturing process. Our cardboard packaging is also made of 100% recycled material.
By continuously investing in its production facilities and associated processes, the RONAL GROUP ensures it is capable of offering sustainable and innovative products such as the RONAL R60-blue wheel, and minimizing the consumption of energy and resources as soon as manufacturing begins. The measures adopted under our integral PLANBLUE initiative range from materials procurement through manufacturing and products to recycling. The aim here is always to reduce the carbon footprint of our products.
