Under the name “Vision 2045”, the annual UN Climate Change Conference will tell the stories of 45 innovative and sustainable industrial companies whose organizations and people are actively responding to the challenge of climate change. The RONAL GROUP is one of those nominated companies. We are proud to present our commitment to a sustainable environment at this year’s COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates.
The RONAL GROUP cast wheel factories have been awarded group-wide certification to the ASI Performance Standard with a focus on material stewardship in the design, manufacture and distribution of alloy wheels.
Under the title “The future is circular”, the current sustainability report for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 financial years focuses on the topic of circular economy. In it, the RONAL GROUP reports on its main topics, goals and the achievement of goals in the area of sustainability.
The RONAL GROUP is one of the partners who equip Four Motors – Germany’s first sustainable racing team – with their products and accompany them on their way to sustainable motorsport. The climate-neutral RONAL R70-blue wheels have already been tested several times by the crew on the most demanding racetrack in the world, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, under maximum load.
PLANBLUE is our path towards being a sustainable company. But we aren’t just focusing on reducing CO2 and waste, using energy from renewable sources, and developing sustainable products. For us, it’s also crucial for our employees to understand the importance of this issue and to act as “sustainability ambassadors”. Leading by example, our colleague Martin recently purchased the new electric VW ID.3 including our carbon-neutral RONAL R70-blue wheels.
For us, our PLANBLUE sustainability concept means taking care not only of the environment but also of society – on both a large and small scale. To avoid the use of paper cups, we at RONAL AG in Härkingen (Switzerland) introduced PLANBLUE coffee cups some time ago. Now, we wanted to provide employees with matching glasses – and not just any glasses with PLANBLUE printed on them.
In 2017, we launched our Bike2RONAL campaign as part of PLANBLUE, where employees from all locations could collect kilometers by commuting to work the environmentally friendly way, on inline skates, on foot, by electric automobile or using public transportation. Last September, the project was reorganized and started back up under the name RONWAY.
This autumn, our second plant in Teruel, Spain, is celebrating its bicentenary. One of our colleagues suggested a special way to mark the occasion on World Environment Day, an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme.
Geothermal energy is sustainable, ecological and sparing in the use of resources. In Forst, geothermal energy is used all year round for heating and cooling. A heat pump is powered using electricity from renewable energy sources, so in terms of its energy supply, the site is largely CO2-neutral.
A special event was held in Bern at the end of September as part of this year’s meeting of the executive board members from all our sites: a special motor racing event – with 0% CO2 emissions.
As part of our PLANBLUE sustainability concept, we launched the Bike2RONAL campaign last April. Our mission: All employees are called upon to travel to and from work in a way that is as CO2-neutral as possible. This is where we present the results.
We operate cogeneration units at our factory in San Luis Potosí in Mexico. We also plan to use them at our factory in Italy in the foreseeable future. We would like to explain why we are doing so in this article.
With Bike2RONAL we have set up an environmentally friendly, in-house campaign to try and persuade all employees around the world to travel to and from work without making their carbon footprint any larger. Our colleague René has seized on this campaign to combine work and pleasure.
Alron Lda, our toolmaking site of the RONAL GROUP in Cantanhede (Portugal), came in for a special mention at the 17th award ceremony of the energy supplier EDP, recognition corresponding to third place.
The RONAL GROUP’s commitment to a sustainable future starts with PLANBLUE. However, good words must be matched by actions. This is why we started the Bike2Ronal campaign in the 2017/2018 financial year.
